Washakie Museum - History, Art, Earth Science - Worland Wyoming The Washakie Room

"EVOLUTION OF A BASIN" offers a quick view of the geology of the Big Horn Basin. The Basin is an ideal outdoor textbook for geological study. Geologists come from around the world to study the area because of the rock layers that are revealed at the surface.

MAPS AND CHARTS will guide you in an overview of the Basin's geology. The hands-on table will allow visitors to examine many of the types of rocks found in the area.

FOSSILS, EVIDENCE OF PLANTS and animals of earlier times, are preserved by geologic processes. Some of the fossils displayed are the life's work of Richard Steiner, a local collector. Additional specimens are on loan from the Wyoming State Museum.
